Slightly off-topic here, but there’s a new book for those interested in geology, history, ecology, and travel guides in California’s North Coast Ranges: Exploring the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument Region, written by Marc Hoshovsky, Bob Schneider, Peter Schiffman, and also me (Tim Messick). I mostly prepared the maps and other graphics in this lavishly illustrated volume.
It’s available now from Backcountry Press, here:

(And you get a free eBook version when you purchase the paperback edition before February 1st, 2026.)

Hi Tim, I meant to reply to this long ago. This new book looks very interesting. That region looks exceptional, especially geologically speaking. Regardless, the graphics (by you?) are exceptional! It might almost make me want to buy the book. Unfortunately, I have many books on my shelf that I never look at after an initial perusal. Twin underwater volcanic seamounts!Steve Matson
Hi Steve!
Yes, I produced all the maps and diagrams. Marc compiled the geology, vegetation, fire, and land ownership data into GIS files that I then worked with to build those maps. Marc, Bob, and a few others provided all the photos. I know what you mean about too many unread books on the shelf, though—mine too.
Thanks,
Tim
